A roadmap page you can read at 166 items

The roadmap page that aidlc roadmap view opens was built when this repository had a dozen items. It now has 166: 138 done, 26 on hold, 2 in progress. At that size it stopped being something I could read.

The Dependencies map drew every box 240 units wide and cut the title at 34 characters. The median title here is 84 characters and the longest is 145, so nearly every label ended in "…". Only inbox and in progress looked different from anything else. Backlog, done and hold all read alike, and the done work, which is most of it, sat on top of the open work. Reading an item past its summary meant leaving the page to open the file.

What changed

Same command, same flags, same file. The page is what changed.

Every map box now wraps its whole title over as many lines as it needs and grows to fit. Each status has its own look on map boxes and Board cards alike: inbox dashed, backlog gray, in progress yellow, done green, hold dotted and faded. The status word stays in the box, so color is never the only signal, and a key in the corner of the map says which look is which.

Done work is hidden on the map by default, behind a switch that counts what it hides, and the setting is kept in the URL. Done items get their own Shipped tab instead, grouped by week, newest first, with a running total. The side panel now shows the whole item below the summary: headings, lists, quotes, tables and code. Open cards say how long they have been in their state, and inbox, backlog and in-progress cards past 30 days are marked stale. Hold splits into Parked, Declined and On hold, so "not now" stops looking like "never". And j and k move between items, with the open panel following.

Why wrap instead of widen

The item allowed either. Growing boxes sideways to fit a 145 character title makes one box five times wider than its neighbors and breaks the columns the tree layout depends on. Wrapping keeps the columns and lets the height vary, which meant the layout had to place boxes by their real heights instead of a fixed row.

Item text in the panel goes through a small renderer that emits a fixed set of tags and nothing from the item itself. Links and HTML in an item show as text. I gave up clickable links for that.

What it costs

Size. The page for this repository is 1,483,619 bytes, and full item text added about 700 KB of it. That is 94% of the 1.5 MB budget a test enforces, and every new item pushes it closer. When the roadmap crosses it, that test fails first, and that is the only warning there is.
