The roadmap page that opens on the work in play
The problem
aidlc roadmap view (shipped by html-roadmap-view on 2026-10-07) writes one page that stacks a
kanban board above a dependency map, with plain styling, and shows everything at once.
Measured on this repository's roadmap on 2026-10-09: 153 items (inbox 10, backlog 1, in progress 2, done 119, hold 21). 55 items touch a dependency edge, in 17 clusters (connected groups). 9 of the 17 clusters are entirely done; the 8 open ones hold 34 items. So the work in play is 13 cards among 153, and most of the map is finished chains.
How it could be solved
Three decisions, each about keeping a single page small while it shows two very different views.
The first was where the layout happens. The map has two shapes, one for the open chains and one for everything, and the browser could have worked out positions on the fly. It does not. Each group of linked items is drawn once, and both of its positions are worked out ahead of time, so switching shapes only moves whole groups. Drawing the map twice would have doubled the page, and giving every item two positions would have meant two lines for every link.
The second was who does the hiding. Folded columns, dimmed items and capped lists are all styling rules; the script only records which tab and filters are on. That kept the script inside its size budget, and it means the view a link or a reload restores is just that small record.
The third was what the page may do on its own. It runs nothing. For each item it offers the next command to copy, and where the next step is a conversation with the agent rather than a command, it offers the phrase that starts that conversation. Colours come from one set of named values, and a test reads the stylesheet to check every pair meets contrast in both themes, so the next colour change cannot quietly break it.
How AIDLC solves it
The page aidlc roadmap view opens is restyled and reorganised. Same command, same flags, same
file location.
- Two tabs, Board and Dependencies, each with its count, in place of one long page.
- Filters on each tab: five status chips with counts, presets (Active work, Needs a decision, Shipped, Parked, Everything) and Ready to start / Blocked toggles. Each tab keeps its own.
- The Board opens on the work in play — inbox, backlog and in progress. Done and hold fold into narrow rails with their counts; a click brings the column back.
- The Dependencies tab draws one labelled group per cluster of linked items, packed side by side, and opens on open chains only (8 of 17 on this repository today). Filtered items are dimmed, not removed. A link to an unfinished prerequisite is red and dashed; hovering or focusing a node traces its chain.
- The URL keeps the view: tab and both tabs' filters live in the hash, so a reload or a shared link reopens the same view.
- Light by default, dark on a header toggle, remembered by the browser across regenerations. Both themes meet 4.5:1 for text and 3:1 for focus rings, links and status icons.
- Keys:
/search,1/2tabs,Esccloses the panel or clears the search. - Copy the next command from the side panel: a triage prompt (inbox, hold), start in a worktree
and rank first (backlog),
aidlc continue <instance>(in progress). The page runs nothing.
Visible to users on upgrade: the next aidlc roadmap view writes the new page. Nothing else
changes: no migration, no aidlc update effect, no committed file.
